Frequently asked questions

Spray foam insulation is a high-performance insulation material that expands upon application to create an airtight seal. It is commonly used in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings to enhance energy efficiency by reducing heat loss and air leakage. Spray foam is applied as a liquid and expands into a foam, filling gaps, cracks, and cavities for superior insulation compared to traditional materials like fiberglass or cellulose.

Spray foam insulation works by mixing two liquid components—an isocyanate and a polyol resin—that react and expand upon contact. When sprayed, the liquid rapidly expands to fill gaps and adheres to surfaces, creating an air-sealed barrier. This prevents heat transfer, blocks air infiltration, and improves moisture resistance, making it an effective insulation solution for walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, and other areas.

There are two main types of spray foam insulation:

  1. Open-Cell Spray Foam:

    • Lighter and softer with a spongy texture.
    • Expands more, making it ideal for filling larger gaps and hard-to-reach areas.
    • Provides soundproofing and moderate insulation but has lower R-values than closed-cell foam.
  2. Closed-Cell Spray Foam:

    • Denser and more rigid with a higher R-value (thermal resistance).
    • Acts as a vapor barrier and adds structural strength to buildings.
    • More effective for extreme temperatures and moisture-prone areas.

The choice between open-cell and closed-cell foam depends on your specific insulation needs, climate, and budget.

Spray foam insulation offers several advantages over traditional insulation materials:

  • Superior Energy Efficiency: Reduces heat loss and lowers heating/cooling costs.
  • Air Sealing Properties: Prevents air leaks, improving indoor comfort and HVAC efficiency.
  • Moisture Resistance: Closed-cell foam acts as a vapor barrier, preventing mold and moisture damage.
  • Durability & Longevity: Maintains effectiveness for the lifetime of the building without sagging or settling.
  • Soundproofing: Open-cell foam reduces noise transmission for a quieter indoor environment.
  • Adds Structural Strength: Closed-cell foam enhances the integrity of walls and roofs.

Spray foam insulation has environmentally friendly benefits, including reducing energy consumption and lowering carbon footprints by improving a building’s efficiency.
