Polyurethane foam is a spray applied cellular plastic that is a highly effective insulation that can provide an air barrier and moisture barrier for roofs, attics, crawlspaces, walls, and basements. Spray foam is a two-component system comprised of an “A” side consisting of Isocyanate and a “B” side which is a blend of polyol resins, blowing agents, and catalysts. When these two components are combined a chemical reaction takes place producing foam. Typical spray foam insulation systems are 1:1 in ratio. When the two components are processed for application, they are metered to the correct ratio through a machine called a proportioner. The two components are increased in pressure, typically to 1200 PSI and heated for application, usually to 110 to 120 degrees F. The material is sent through heated hose and are kept separate until they mix in the contractor’s spray foam system’s spray gun. The mixed foam then expands on the surface it is sprayed on, sealing cracks, gaps, and voids. Both open and closed cell foam create a sealed environment and are great air barriers. Open cell foam is a very effective sound barrier and closed cell foam is used when a moisture barrier is needed. Closed cell foam will also strengthen structures. At Spray Foam Systems, we have both options available in our online spray foam insulation system collection. Browse our selection below to learn more.
Spray Foam Insulation (SPF) is made by combining an isocyanate ( A side ) and a resin (b side) at a 1:1 ratio. Isocyanates in polyurethane is typically made up of methylene diphenyl disoycynate (MDI) and polymeric methylene diphenyl disocynate (PMDI). Resins in polyurethane are usually made up of polyols and catalysts. Different foams may use catalysts within the foam to help the reaction occur. A common catalyst in spray foam insulation is a blowing agent. A blowing agent is a substance in the foam that produces a cellular structure that effects the way the foam hardens. The common blowing agents used in most foams are water and hydrocarbons based on the foam type. Open cell spray foam insulation usually has a water blown agent and closed cell typically has water and a hydrocarbon which forms the foam. The two components A and B, are then disposed through a proportioning system that evenly distributes the chemicals that are then ran through a hose and mixed through the spray gun. When spraying, the chemical reaction is created to make spray foam insulation that comes out as a liquid and adheres to a surface and expands and sets. Open cell insulation tends to have a spongy like texture, as closed cell insulation is a ridged more tough texture due to its water impermeable properties. Low Density foams are referred to as open cell foams that are used in structures for insulating purposes. It is important to follow all foam manufacturers guidelines in regards to handling these products and should always have proper personal protection equipment on when handling these products. It is recommended that a trained and certified applicator handle and process these materials.
Polyurethane foam is the best choice in slab lifting and void filing due to its ability to go in as a liquid and fill any areas that are compacted or have been eroded by water beneath the concrete surface without much disruption to the environment and concrete itself. This method uses structural lifting foams that are resistant to water to prevent more damage to the area. Once the foam has filled the areas, it begins to expand and will stabilize and lift concrete in those areas. Other Methods do not last as long as Polyurethane foam and can cause disruption to the exterior area and leave a mess. The customer benefits aesthetically from concrete lifting applications, as the small hole is typically ⅝” diameter. Concrete Lifting foams vary from 2-5 pounds based on residential, commercial or flow projects that are more for filling voids. Concrete foams weigh less than replacing concrete or mud jacking which means there is a lesser chance of concrete resettling. Choose the best way to lift concrete With one of the best systems.
Polyurea is a two-component high performance polymer coating, designed for a wide variety of residential, commercial, and industrial environments. Polyurea is a rapid curing from liquid to plastic coating that is flexible, waterproof, and able to resist chemical submersion. When using our polyurea spray systems, sometimes the polyurea coating itself may be applied directly to the substrate and in other cases may require a primer. Top Coats may be required or optional after applying polyurea. Polyurea is used largely in commercial and industrial applications and with its fast curing time the return to service time decreases. Polyurea spray systems are also used as protection in chemical and abrasive environments, water and wastewater applications, residential flooring, roofing, decking, marine coatings, and transportation coatings. Find the best packages and mobile polyurea systems below to help you excel in the Polyurea Industry below! Unsure which polyurea system is best for your project? Spray applied protective coatings are high performance single and plural component coatings. Protective spray coatings range in resistance to abrasion, corrosion, UV light, chemicals, water, or fire. These coatings are used in a wide variety of industries such as flooring, water containment, fireproofing, storage, bridge and steel manufacturing, roofing and many others. Protective spray coatings adhere to most substrates with their high elasticity in varying temperatures. Our package and mobile systems below are created for the beginners and seasoned veterans in Protective Coatings. Protective coatings can be a single or plural component material that is used for secondary containment, corrosion control, roof coatings, pipe and tank coatings, fireproofing, marine coatings, waterproofing, manhole and sewer reconditioning and many more. Single component coatings are common in roof coating applications and some fireproofing applicationsboth used over polyureathane foam. Common plural component coatings are epoxies and polyurea. Typically plural component applications may require a primer and include fast setting and strong chemical resistance. Plural components consists of a catalyst and a resin that become a single coating when mixed together.
Spray Foam roofing is a two-component spray applied polyurethane roofing foam that provides insulation, waterproofing and roofing stability. Polyurethane foam roofing has the highest R-value of any commonly used roof insulation. Total payback of your new roof usually occurs in less than ten years through savings in heating and cooling costs. Since your new roof is spray-applied, it can conform to any irregularity and will seal all penetrations, flashings, parapet walls, even wall capping. Polyurethane roofs are installed quickly, resulting in a lower labor cost and less interruption. When considering the many variables in a re-roofing project, the versatility of a polyurethane roof makes it a logical and cost effective solution. Spray Foam roofing makes complex shapes easy to spray and can be applied to metal, asphalt, clay and wood roofs. Find the best package or mobile system below for your roofing needs!
Spray Foam roofing is a two-component spray applied polyurethane roofing foam that provides insulation, waterproofing and roofing stability. Polyurethane foam roofing has the highest R-value of any commonly used roof insulation. This system provides:►Seamless roof membrane.►Lightweight.►No fasteners-fully adhered.►Easily tapered to eliminate ponding water.►Tear off is not normally required.►UL and FM fire and wind rated.Polyurethane roofs are installed quickly, resulting in a lower labor cost and less interruption. Spray Foam roofing makes complex shapes easy to spray and can be applied to metal, asphalt, clay and wood roofs.Spray Foam roofing can withstand extreme weather conditions, but requires a protective coating. Under direct sunlight, the polyurethane will degrade at a rate of approximately 1/16 inch per year. To protect it from U.V. damage, various types of elastomeric rubber membranes are installed. Among the membranes used are silicones, urethanes, polyureas, acrylics, and butyls. These coatings are spray applied over the polyurethane, forming a seamless protective membrane. In addition to U.V. protection, these coatings provide waterproofing, impact resistance, and improved fire ratings. Additional membranes include more conventional types such a EPDM, Modified Bitumen, and Built Up. Spray Polyurethane Roofing is designed to be relatively maintenance-free but basic maintenance that requires cleaning and recoats every 10-20 years will help maintain the roofing foam in order to keep the structure properly insulated
