Air Compressors

An air compressor is a versatile mechanical device that converts power into potential energy stored in pressurized air. This compressed air can then be utilized for various applications across multiple industries. In the context of a spray foam rig, an air compressor plays a crucial role in the application process of spray foam insulation.An air compressor typically consists of a motor, a pump, and a storage tank. The motor powers the pump, which compresses air and stores it in the tank until needed. In a spray foam rig, the air compressor is an integral component used as the air source to power the transfer pumps, spray foam machine,  hose, and spray gun. The compressor also powers accessories such as pneumatic drum mixers and some fresh air systems. Compressors are offered in either rotary screw or rotary vane and can be electric-powered or gas-powered.
  • Rotary Screw Compressor:
    • Compression is achieved through the meshing and rotation of the interlocking screws.
    • As the screws rotate, the air is compressed and pushed towards the discharge port.
  • Rotary Vane Compressor:
    • Compression occurs as the vanes create varying chamber volumes by sliding in and out.
    • Air is drawn into the expanding chamber, compressed as the volume decreases, and expelled through the discharge port.

Air Dryers

An air dryer is a specialized device designed to remove moisture and contaminants from compressed air. In a spray foam rig, the air dryer is integrated into the compressed air system to address the inherent moisture content in the air. Controlling moisture is essential in spray foam insulation applications, as moisture can adversely affect the chemical reaction and performance of the spray foam material. An air dryer typically consists of a drying chamber, desiccant material, filters, and a regeneration system. The drying chamber contains desiccant beads that absorb moisture from the compressed air.
