Tips for Spray Foam Applicators

PPEApplying Spray Foam
Always, always, wear your personal protective equipment! PPE is the most important thing to keep on your at all times, of course besides your sets of foam. PPE protects yourself from many things, such as the fumes from spraying, getting overspray on your skin, clothing, or in your hair, and protects from inhaling overspray and having it settle in your lungs. We want every sprayer to remain safe and healthy while on job sites, and always suggest having extras of any PPE you use in the off chance that something may break, tear, or crack.

Keep your chemical warm

If you’re not in a warmer climate, it’s important to keep your chemical warm and at the optimal temperatures. Foam is best kept between 70-85 degrees Fahrenheit to provide proper mixing of both sides of set. If you are in an area where that isn’t so easy, or as the winter comes rolling in, it’s best to get drum heaters, either as a band or a flat heater the drum can rest on, and to get scuff around your hose that can be heated. And if you are spraying in the cold, and don’t take any days off, winter blends of foam are an excellent choice. While they still need to be kept at a certain temperature, the foam reacts differently when sprayed, to make up for the cold air and climate outside of the drums and hose.

The right tip
If you’re using the Fusion AP Gun, which most are, tips are a great part in maximizing your ease on your job. Tips can allow for different spraying patterns, and some can allow for a longer range for spraying. There are tips that produce fan, cone, or round patterns when spraying, and having the right tips can help with having a higher coverage depending on the amount you’re looking to spray. Getting extension tips that allow for a greater range help those jobs in tight or hard to reach spaces be a little easier, allowing you to fill all the nooks and crannies.
