Fireshell F10E Thermal Barrier 5 Gallon Pail – White

Designed for Spray Foam Applications

The Fireshell F10E Thermal Barrier (SKU#236799) is formulated specifically for spray foam contractors. This water-based, intumescent coating expands in high heat to form a thick char layer, which blocks flame contact and reduces oxygen exposure to spray polyurethane foam (SPF). It is safe to use on both open-cell and closed-cell SPF insulation and complies with ICC-ES ESR 3997 for use as an alternative thermal barrier coating.

Ideal Interior Use Cases

Fireshell F10E is widely used in:

  • Attics and crawl spaces
  • Interior walls and ceilings
  • FRP panel systems
  • Any exposed SPF insulation requiring a fire-rated coating

Because it has low viscosity, contractors can apply it with standard airless sprayers like the Graco 695. For detailed areas, a brush or roller works well too.

Code-Compliant and Performance-Tested

This product meets a wide range of building code and environmental standards:

  • ASTM E84 Class A Fire Rating (Flame Spread < 25, Smoke < 50)
  • IBC 803.1.2.1 and 2603.9
  • IRC R316.6 and R302.9.4
  • FM 4975 fire-retardant coating listing
  • LEED Certified and EPA Low-VOC compliant

These certifications make it a trusted solution in both residential and commercial spray foam projects.

Fast Application and Drying Time

Each gallon of Fireshell F10E covers 80–92 square feet. It becomes tack-free in as little as 45 minutes at 90°F and is ready for recoating in less than two hours. Once cured, it creates a flat finish that can be top-coated with latex paint if required.

The coating is available in a 5-gallon pail and should be stored between 45°F and 100°F. It is not suitable for exterior, submerged, or extremely humid environments.

Installer Safety and PPE Requirements

When applying Fireshell F10E, contractors must follow safety guidelines. Required personal protective equipment (PPE) includes:

  • Chemical-resistant coveralls
  • Safety glasses with splash guards
  • Rubber gloves
  • Rubber or leather boots

Proper ventilation is key—especially in enclosed spaces. Use cross-ventilation with negative pressure, and avoid using combustion heaters, which add excess moisture and introduce safety hazards.
